In another world, ninja are the ultimate power, and in the Village Hidden in the Leaves live the stealthiest ninja in the land. Twelve years earlier, the fearsome Nine-Tailed Fox terrorized the village and claimed many lives before it was subdued and its spirit sealed within the body of a baby boy. That boy, Naruto Uzumaki, has grown up to become a ninja-in-training who's more interested in pranks than in studying ninjutsu.. but Naruto is determined to become the greatest ninja ever! Follows the struggles of three young ninjas - Naruto Uzumaki, Sasuke Uchiha and Sakura Haruno - as they go through their training. A powerful beast known as the Nine-Tails attacks Konoha, the hidden leaf village in the Land of Fire, one of the Five Great Shinobi Nations in the Ninja World. In response, the leader of Konoha at the time, the Fourth Hokage, seals the fox inside the body of the new born Naruto Uzumaki, making Naruto a host of the beast; During this process it cost the fourth Hokage his life, requiring the Third Hokage to return from retirement in order to become leader of Konoha again. As a child, Naruto is shunned by the Konoha community, who treat Naruto as if he were the Nine-Tails that attacked the village.

Series Parental Guide

nudity 4/10 Naruto can use a power called his "Sexy Jutsu" to change into a nude girl, but any genitalia or breasts are covered by smoke. The jutsu is mostly used for pranks. Some sexual references and jokes. Kakashi frequently reads from an erotica book series called "Makeout Paradise", although nothing is ever shown or described. In one episode, Naruto and Konohamuru try to sneak peeks at a pornographic magazine. Nothing is shown though. Quite a few of the older males are perverts. This is referenced quite a bit since Naruto calls Jiraiya the "Pervy Sage", as he is always peeping on women. In one later episode, around 164 or 165, there is a woman shown bathing in a hot spring. Her bare backside is seen in full view for about a second and a half. In Episode 148 or 149, Naruto is in the forest with a few others. Hinata strips off at night and dances under a waterfall while practising her jutsu. Naruto goes outside to go to the bathroom and sees the naked figure of a girl dancing, not knowing it is Hinata. She is completely covered by a silhouette, but the outline of her body is still shown.
violence 5/10 (Cut) 7/10 (Uncut) All the battles have lots of violence and blood. The deaths in Naruto are very intense and graphic. Kakashi is sliced in half during an assassination attack, the body is silhouetted but very startling and intense. We later discover it was only a shadow clone. Naruto is poisoned in one scene and has to stab his hand to get the poison out, blood seeps out as he does it. During the invasion of Konoha we see people watching their houses be destroyed by giant creatures and other ninjas. The battle between the Third Hokage and Orochimaru is very intense and violent. During the Chunnin Exams the ninjas need to battle with people that they know. In these battles a few people die but the deaths are very stylized and intense. The battle between Team 7 and Zabuza is very graphic and intense, especially towards the end as many thugs are killed by Zabuza's rampage. The Uchiha Clan massacre is very intense and brutally violent, blood splattering over walls and floor. CUT: Most of the blood in the fights is either censored by shadows, camera cuts or angles, or removed all together. Some fights are shortened and a few are even removed if they are too bloody to be shown on children's television. UNCUT: Blood spurts from throats, runs down legs and arms, covers faces, stains the environment and weapons, and we hear the crunching sounds of bones being broken.
profanity 3/10 Very mild and infrequent, like "damn", "bastard", "crap" and "ass". "Bitch" is said once and is about as strong as the language gets. Almost all of it is cut from the edited TV version.
alcohol 2/10 (Cut) 4/10 (Uncut) Characters infrequently drink Japanese wine called sake. Smoking is moderate, except one character who is always seen with a cigarette in his mouth. In the edited version the cigarettes are censored.
frightening 7/10 Some characters can be scary such as Orochimaru, Itachi and Gaara. When Gaara is changing into his "Shukaku Form" his face becomes very distorted and twisted, saliva dripping from his mouth and his eyes evil and slitted. He rants about killing other characters and can appear very disturbing. Fairly upsetting scenes, such as Naruto and Gaara's backstories. Both were abused and ostracized as children due to having creatures called "tailed beasts" sealed inside them. They are shown orphaned and alone, crying on few occasions. Certain episodes contain especially emotional deaths that may not be suitable for young children, specifically Zabuza and Haku's death. Orochimaru's lair can be fairly scary and creepy. Sasuke's "Curse Seal" transformation can be extremely scary, as he grows wings and other devilish features. Orochimaru himself is VERY scary and disturbing, being sadistic and power-hungry. He is immortal and achieves this by devouring another person's body like a snake. This is never shown, but the victims can be heard screaming in fear and agony. Orochimaru vs. The Third Hokage gets very intense and bloody. The Third Hokage summons the Grim Reaper which seals the ability for Orochimaru to use his arms permanently, the entire scene is very drawn out and can be frightening to young children. The deaths of Sasuke's family and clan is very intense and brutally violent, particularly because it was his older brother that did it. The death of Sarutobi, The Third Hokage, is very intense and upsetting. When Sasuke and Naruto get into a fight after Sasuke leaves the Leaf Village, both using their demon forms is very upsetting, because they discuss the friendship they once had, and Sasuke is ready to kill Naruto if it means severing that bond. Naruto tells Sasuke that he will bring him back to the left village even if it means beating him to a pulp. Naruto's "Nine-Tailed Fox" transformation is somewhat scary, as he grows fangs and red eyes. A monsterous orange aura envelopes him. Total Cut: 22/50 Total Uncut: 25/50 TV Rating: TV-PG-DSV (Edited Version) TV Rating: TV-PG-DLSV/TV-14-V (Uncut Version) suggested rating PG-13 for intense action violence, crude humor, language, smoking, some sexual situations and partial nudity.
